James Tan

An experienced executive with commercial and technical leadership background within the maritime industry. Going beyond his shipbuilding technical expertise, James has over 40 years of experience in business strategy & management including P&L, market entry & growth strategy, strategic partnerships, multi-cultural & matrix operations, complex project management, quality assurance and human resource.

 

James started his earlier career in government affairs and worked in the Singapore Embassy in Tokyo. A passion for the sea turned into a lifelong career in maritime.  In the mid-1970s, he commenced his marine career in shipbuilding in Japan, Singapore and Saudi Arabia. He set up Mickon Marine Industries in partnership with an experienced and reputable English naval architecture firm. Mickon Marine Industries specialised in the new building of offshore vessels primarily for clients in the Middle East such as Taylor Woodrow LLC in Oman, Aramco in Saudi Arabia, KOTC in Kuwait. The dynamics of international trade has evolved in the early 2000s. He then built his network to focus on more businesses in Asia and North Asia including China.

 

Leveraging on his international network including state-sponsored Chinese shipbuilders, Chinese export companies such as CIESCO, SINOSIN Sentosa, GSE now offers a suite of competitive shipbuilding turnkey solutions from design, shipyard selection, technical supervision, delivery of financing solutions for an integrated, seamless and cost-effective solution for overseas shipowners.
